Spice it up – Do you know how to use spices effectively?

1. Garlic

This “strong-smelling” bulb is considered the most familiar spice in meat and green vegetable dishes. Normally, garlic is crushed or minced and added to beef, pork, and chicken during the preparation process. However, using too much garlic should be avoided because the smell of garlic will overpower the aroma of the meat.

Garlic is suitable for stir-fried, stewed, or fried dishes. For stir-fried vegetables, garlic is added when the cooking oil is hot to eliminate odor and enhance the fragrance of the dish.

2. Lemongrass

Lemongrass is still used in soups, fish broth, or dishes with green vegetables. Its delicious aroma helps to neutralize the fishy smell of fish and meats with a strong scent. When used with green vegetables, lemongrass brings a unique flavor and revitalizes commonly used vegetable dishes.

3. Cinnamon

With its strong aroma and spicy, warming taste, cinnamon is the perfect spice for sweet dishes. A touch of cinnamon will help baked goods emit a fragrant aroma and become sweeter. In addition, cinnamon can also be added to hot drinks like tea, with a little honey. You will definitely have a delicious and healthy drink.

4. Chili Powder

If you want to use a spice to add color to your dishes, chili powder is a suitable choice. The flavor of chili powder is not as spicy as fresh chili, so it will not affect the quality of the dish.

5. Pepper

Ground pepper is made from ground dried pepper seeds. They are still used to season most dishes, especially soups and braised dishes. In addition to enhancing the aroma of the dish, ground pepper also brings a natural flavor, making the dish more flavorful. If freshly ground, pepper will be very fragrant. The longer it is stored, the less aroma it will have over time. Therefore, you should only buy a small amount to use. Unlike ground pepper, whole peppercorns are often used when they are still green and are suitable for braised dishes.

Considered as one of the essential spices in cooking, salt adds saltiness to dishes. However, if used too much, it will be difficult to eat. The habit of eating salty food is also not good for health because they increase the sodium content in the body, leading to dangerous diseases. Among the types of salt, sea salt is always the top choice for housewives because it has a low sodium content and contains iodine. Salt is suitable for foods such as eggs, poultry, fish, seafood, and soups.

The most typical dish that uses curry powder made from turmeric root as the main ingredient is the famous curry. However, curry powder is also used to marinate meats such as beef, pork, and poultry to enhance the fragrance and make the meat more flavorful. The flavor of this powder will stimulate your sense of smell and taste.
